TRENDE, which is developing P2P power trading, announced on the 19th that it has raised 1.07 billion yen through a third-party allocation of shares and other means. Four companies—Tokyo Century, National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (JA ZEN-NOH), ZEN-NOH Energy, and Toshiba Infrastructure Systems—have joined as new shareholders.
TRENDE operates businesses centered on solar power and storage battery services that deliver environmentally friendly electricity, as well as the IoT platform “Utility Suite” that aims to utilize data across different fields such as mobility, healthcare, and payment in addition to the power business, and research and development projects including the development of peer-to-peer power trading (P2P power trading).
The company announced the start of a P2P power trading project as a commercial service in September 2024, and this funding will accelerate the development of such next-generation power trading technologies. P2P power trading is a business model where owners of power generation and storage facilities and power consumers directly trade electricity on a platform.
TRENDE’s main service, “TERRALIS,” allows users to introduce expensive solar power generation equipment by just paying a monthly service fee without taking out a loan. Compared to purchasing with a loan or a lump sum cash payment, the barrier to introducing equipment is lower, and users can receive after-sales support during the contract period, making it possible to use the equipment with peace of mind. After the contract expires, the entire set of equipment is transferred. Furthermore, in October 2024, the company succeeded a business through an absorption-type company split contract from ONE Energy and now also provides a storage system rental service. This is Japan’s first household energy service through battery storage rental.
With this funding, as part of the Smart Agri-Community Project led by JA ZEN-NOH, the company is developing a local production and consumption power interchange project utilizing P2P (Peer to Peer) power trading technology in collaboration with “JA Denki” of ZEN-NOH Energy, a retail electricity provider, in Gunma Prefecture. In the future, they plan to prepare power menus and other offerings so that they can be introduced to agricultural cooperative members as they expand the area.
Additionally, the company has also announced that it has undertaken a local production and consumption electricity initiative utilizing a scheme based on Toshiba Infrastructure Systems’ V2X system and its own P2P power trading in the Triangle Ehime Promotion Project’s “Digital Implementation Acceleration Project” in Ehime Prefecture.
