First Look At Matt Damon and Ben Affleck In The Netflix Movie ‘The Rip’

First Look At Matt Damon and Ben Affleck In The Netflix Movie ‘The Rip’

Netflix has unveiled the first-look images for The Rip, an upcoming action thriller starring the acclaimed duo Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. This marks their first collaboration in an action film, following their previous performances together in dramas such as 1997’s Good Will Hunting, 2021’s The Last Duel, and 2023’s Air.

The official synopsis describes the plot: “After discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami police officers begins to unravel. As outside forces become aware of the seizure’s magnitude, everything is thrown into question — including who they can depend on.” The released photos offer fans a first glimpse at Affleck and Damon’s characters, Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne and Lieutenant Dane Dumars, respectively, both members of the Miami police force. The images also introduce their team, featuring notable actors Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Kyle Chandler, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Additional cast members include Sasha Calle and Scott Adkins.

The Rip is written and directed by Joe Carnahan, based on a story by Carnahan and Michael McGrale. Carnahan is renowned for his work on action-packed films such as Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team, Boss Level, Copshop, and Shadow Force. In addition to acting in key roles, Affleck and Damon are producing the film alongside Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon. The project’s executive producers are Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe, representing Artists Equity.

In an interview with Tudum, Carnahan shared, “It doesn’t feel like a bunch of actors just showed up five minutes before. The bonding, the time spent together, and genuine camaraderie created a great atmosphere that’s hard to replicate. When you achieve that, it’s incredibly fortunate. All the performances are outstanding. It’s a testament to what happens when talented people are given something they can relate to — the results speak for themselves.”

The Rip is set to premiere on January 16, 2026.
