Cosmic Robotics Is Rolling Out Robots That Can Deploy Solar Panels

Cosmic Robotics, a California-based robot manufacturing firm, is now preparing to develop a robot that will help deploy solar panels to remote parts of the US. This new robot will take its place in the solar installation industry, helping to boost the growth of the solar industry in the US.

As the world moves to more green energy generation, means as solar, there is a growing need for the installation of solar panels. While this work is seeing more traction in urban areas, more rural, remote areas are falling behind schedule as solar installers struggle to meet demand.

To tackle this issue, a California-based robotics company is now developing robots that it can use in solar panel installation in remote areas. The CEO of this company, Cosmic Robotics, has identified the challenges that remote areas face regarding the installation of solar panels in their region.

James Emerick, the CEO of Cosmic Robotics, says that this is “terrible work in remote places.” This is, judging from the difficulties that human solar installers face when they need to install panels in remote areas.

COMIC-1A is the name of the robot in development, and according to its developer, “is an autonomous, all-electric mobile robot designed for rugged utility-scale solar construction.” Its functions will include lifting larger-format PV models and navigating through unfavourable terrains while carrying various installation equipment.

To ensure that this firm meets its needs, it has been able to secure $4 million in funding in a pre-seed round. According to sources, this fund comes from “Giant Ventures with participation from HCVC, MaC Ventures, and several angel investors, including Azeem Azhar, Aarthi Ramamurthy, and Nate Williams.”

With this fund, Cosmic Robotics will be able to upscale the development and manufacturing of these robots. Once available, these robots will boost the installation of solar panels in various remote regions across the US and possibly the world.

Details On The COSMIC-1A Autonomous Robot

The major task of this robot is to install solar panels in remote regions across the US. It will help to overcome most challenges that human solar installers face in these regions while working efficiently.

From the Cosmic Robotics official website, we can gather some details about this robot. It will feature a lift capacity of 70kg while being able to install solar panels as high as 1830mm.

The robot will be autonomously driven and feature an arm that picks up the solar panels from its rear bed and installs them in various locations. Cosmic Robotics claims that this robot can install a solar panel every 30 to 40 seconds, making it very efficient.

According to Emerick, this robot doesn’t aim to take jobs away from human solar installers. Instead, he refers to the robot as “a force amplifier”, helping to get the job done faster and more efficiently.
