Teddi Mellencamp Asks Judge to Dismiss Ex-Housekeeper’s Discrimination Lawsuit and Fights Back In Court!
Teddi Mellencamp is juggling more than just her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer—she’s also fighting back against serious allegations in court.
The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is being sued by a former housekeeper, Julia Umana, who claims Teddi created a hostile work environment filled with racial discrimination, verbal harassment, and wage violations. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Julia, a 71-year-old immigrant from El Salvador, filed the lawsuit in February, accusing Teddi of “blatant abuse of power.”
Julia began working for Teddi in 2021 and alleged that the reality star “treated white employees better than minority staff,” monitored them on security cameras around the clock, and frequently accused Latino workers of theft. The complaint includes claims of unpaid overtime, missed meal and rest breaks, failure to reimburse work-related expenses, and wrongful termination.
Julia is seeking $1 million in damages.
In response, Teddi has denied all wrongdoing. She filed documents insisting she never acted in an “extreme, outrageous, intentional, or reckless” way and claimed Julia’s firing was non-discriminatory and non-retaliatory. Her attorney argued that any damages Julia suffered were “caused and contributed to by [her] own action.” She asked the court to throw out the lawsuit. A judge has yet to rule on whether the case will move forward.
While handling the legal drama, Teddi shared uplifting news about her health this week, giving fans an emotional update on Instagram. In a video post, she revealed that her tumors—located in her brain and lungs—have either shrunk or disappeared.
“One update I couldn’t wait to share…” Teddi wrote in the caption. “All tumors stage 4 (metastasized melanoma in my brain and lungs) shrunk or disappeared. So I have 6ish more weeks of immunotherapy and doctors believe I will be healed if everything stays on course.”
In the accompanying video, a hopeful Teddi added, “Really exciting news, everyone… my tumors have significantly shrunk, which doctors believe means that this all will work and that I will be back to myself and feeling good.”
She also credited her resilience to her father, musician John Mellencamp. “I’m going to keep a positive outlook because that’s the way my doctor just spoke to me,” she said.
“He’s like, ‘You did this, you got this.’ And then, of course, in a complete Cougs way, he said, ‘You got that Mellencamp blood, so you’re good.’” With two more sessions of immunotherapy left, Teddi is holding tight to the hope that she’ll soon be cancer-free—despite the battles she continues to face off-screen.
