The Mariners are surging.
After taking four of six against the Red Sox in Boston and Marlins back home, they won their fifth game in the past week on Tuesday night.
More surprising than anything, it’s the offense — headlined by Jorge Polanco, Cal Raleigh and Dylan Moore (before he hit the IL) — that’s leading the way in recent victories.
Here’s where the Mariners landed in this week’s MLB power rankings.

It was an excellent week for the Mariners, and while they did have the bad news of having to put Logan Gilbert on the IL for the first time in his career with a mild flexor strain in his elbow, they did avoid something much worse. “I would have been really surprised if it was something really bad, but you never really know, and especially when it just never quite got back right,” Gilbert said. “But I feel better today already than I did yesterday. So we probably don’t want to rush anything. We’ll see, but optimistic.”
Yahoo Sports: No. 10
Tied with (Padres’ Robert) Suarez atop the saves leaderboard, Andrés Muñoz has yet to allow a run this season and has bailed the Mariners out of numerous stressful, late-game conundrums. His slider rates as one of baseball’s most effective individual offerings, and he coaxes an unparalleled combination of whiffs and grounders. An All-Star for the first time last season, Muñoz has ascended into the inner circle of the game’s very best closers.
NBC Sports: No. 8 (previously 12)
The Mariners haven’t gotten anything out of George Kirby this season and Logan Gilbert’s status is in question due to a flexor strain, but that isn’t keeping them from playing some good baseball.
Bleacher Report: No. 7 (previously 10)
The Mariners had a successful week in the win-loss column, but they were dealt a major blow when Logan Gilbert landed on the injured list with a flexor strain in his elbow. Prospect Logan Evans replaced him in the rotation and tossed five innings of two-hit, two-run ball in his MLB debut on Sunday. Catcher Cal Raleigh also launched his AL-leading 10th home run of the season on Sunday against the Marlins.
USA Today: No. 10 (previously No. 14)
What team is this? They’ve scored at least seven runs in five of past eight games.
CBS Sports: No. 8 (previously No. 12)
Andrés Muñoz at this point has an argument as the best reliever in baseball.
