The Films and Shows You Should Be Streaming in May 2025

A whole new era is here. For the past several years, our monthly column the Nerd’s Watch has been the place to find out all the best genre titles coming to the biggest streaming services. It wasn’t a complete list. We just posted the titles we think you’d care about, but it was still long and frankly, hard to pick out the best of the best.

Well, over the past few months, that changed. What follows isn’t a list of all the best stuff streaming on all the big streaming services. We’ve looked at all those lists and come up with a few dozen titles that we think are noteworthy this month. Some are new, some are old, but either way, we’ll tell you why you should care. Or at least joke about it. So sit back, grab your remote, and get ready for the new and improved Nerd’s Watch highlighting the best movies and shows coming to streamers this month.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (May 1 on Netflix)

Netflix was nice enough to give us the latest Wallace & Gromit film and now, the previous—and better—one comes to the service too.

Starship Troopers (May 1 on Netflix)

Paul Verhoeven’s action-packed satire is coming to Netflix. Time for Johnny Rico to reintroduce himself to the world. Would you like to know more?

The Twilight Saga (May 1 on Netflix)

All five films in the romantic vampire saga featuring Edward, Bella, and Jacob arrive on Netflix and give you the perfect opportunity for a mega guilty pleasure binge.

Train to Busan (May 2 on Netflix)

This is a truly bonkers and entertaining South Korean film about what happens on a train as a zombie outbreak begins. It’s so much fun and very worth a watch.

Heart Eyes (May 8 on Netflix)

Miss this early 2025 horror movie attempting to introduce a brand new killer? Well, you’re in luck. Heart Eyes—about a killer who kills couples on Valentine’s Day—is coming to Netflix.

Fear Street: Prom Queen (May 23 on Netflix)

The Fear Street series has thus far succeeded in being a very good balance of creepy horror and teen drama and Prom Queen, the latest installment, promises to deliver more of the same.

The Wild Robot (May 24 on Netflix)

I’m going to stand up on a soapbox for this one. *Screams* “The Wild Robot was the best movie that came out in 2024 and if you didn’t see it, it’s coming to Netflix soon. It’s perfect for all ages. Just an amazing movie.”

Tudum 2025 (May 31 on Netflix)

This is an odd one, which is why I chose it. At the end of the month, Netflix is going to live broadcast its version of Comic-Con, called Tudum. Expect news and clips from all sorts of major upcoming releases like Stranger Things 5 and Frankenstein.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (May 1 on Disney+)

As we patiently await for 2027’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Disney+ adds the most recent film in the franchise, Across the Spider-Verse, to its catalog. It’s a masterpiece.

So Much Star Wars (May 1 on Hulu, May 4 on Disney+)

Let’s break this down. All the Star Wars films are on Disney+, of course, but on May 1, the original trilogy makes the jump to Hulu along with Rogue One. Basically, it’s the four-movie sequel to Andor. Then, on May 4, the new animated anthology Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld comes to Disney+ along with video walkthroughs of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and the ride Rise of the Resistance. Perfect if you haven’t had a chance to visit them at the Disney Parks yet.

Silence Of The Lambs

Attack the Block (May 1 on Hulu)

Whether or not that sequel will ever happen remains to be seen, but Joe Cornish’s first film about aliens invading an urban area of the UK, starring John Boyega, remains a certified banger.

The Kingsman films (May 1 on Hulu)

Matthew Vaughn’s trilogy of spy movies comes to Hulu and though they offer diminishing returns, with The Secret Service being the best, The Golden Circle being just okay, and The King’s Man being bad, it’s still an enjoyable series.

Mission: Impossible movies (May 1 and 13 on Hulu)

With the eighth and potentially final film on the way, a few of the earlier films in the series are popping up on Hulu. The first, second, and third movies will arrive May 1 and Rogue Nation, the fifth film, arrives May 13.

Double Pee-wee (May 1 and 23 on Max)

Pee-wee as Himself, an exciting new documentary about Paul Reubens, aka, Pee-wee Herman, is coming to Max May 23 and, to set it up, Pee-wee’s first movie, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, arrives May 1.

The Silence of the Lambs (May 1 on Max)

Simply put, one of the best films ever made is coming to Max this month. Whether you’ve seen it or not, it’s always a good time to witness this masterpiece about an FBI agent using one psycho killer to find another.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (May 1 on Max)

Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet star in the incredible, twisty sci-fi romance story about a couple who have each other removed from their memories, but still can’t stop falling in love.

Enter the Dragon (May 1 on Max)

Bruce Lee’s best-known film kicks its way onto Max, so it’s time to grab your yellow jumpsuit and go along for the ride.

Double Jordan Peele (May 1 and 18 on Peacock)

We aren’t sure why Get Out and Nope weren’t on Peacock earlier, but Jordan Peele’s first and third movies are both coming back this month. Get Out on May 1 and Nope on May 18.

Now You See Me so far (May 1 on Peacock)

Days after the release of the trailer for part three, the highly enjoyable first two Now You See Me films come to streaming, blending action, comedy, and super cool magic tricks.

Poker Face season 2 (May 8 on Peacock)

Charlie is back. Yes, the world’s best lie detector, played by Natasha Lyonne, is back for season two of her Rian Johnson-produced show, and we can’t wait to see what murders she solves this time.

The John Wick Films (May 15 on Peacock)

Yup, all four of John Wick‘s adventures are coming to Peacock, just in time for the upcoming spinoff film, Ballerina.

Oldboy (May 1 on Paramount+)

If you haven’t seen Oldboy, fix that as soon as possible. From director Park Chan-wook, it’s the story of a man imprisoned for 15 years who seeks revenge once he gets out. But it’s so, so much more than that.

Stardust (May 1 on Paramount+)

Sleazy creator aside, Matthew Vaughn’s fantasy starring a pre-Daredevil Charlie Cox and Claire Danes is one of the most underrated movies in recent years. A glorious adventure filled with creatures, romance, and Robert De Niro.

Terminator: Dark Fate (May 1 on Paramount+)

It still bothers us that Dark Fate suffered, well, a Dark Fate. It’s the third-best Terminator movie by a wide margin and beautifully continues the story of the first two movies in a modern, logical, exciting way. It’s great so definitely check it out.

Tremors (May 1 on Shudder)

Kevin Bacon vs. giant, killer, underground worms. A classic.
