The stock markets in India will remain closed on Monday, April 14, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti – the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar. As a result, both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will remain closed for trading and settlement in stocks, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on this day. With markets already closed on April 12 and 13 for the weekends, traders will have an extended weekend.
Investors and traders are advised to plan their transactions accordingly. Trading will resume as usual on April 15, Tuesday.
This year marks the 134th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar – the chief architect of India’s constitution. He was a jurist, economist, and social reformer who worked to eradicate caste-based discrimination from India.
Ambedkar Jayanti will be the second weekday market holiday in April. The stock markets in India were closed on April 10 on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. Trading will also remain suspended on April 18 to mark Good Friday. Indian stock markets remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays of the month unless specified otherwise.
