The Google Pixel 9a is a pretty impressive smartphone for under $500. And one of the better aspects of this phone, is the fact that you can buy it unlocked from multiple retailers.
Unfortunately, it looks like Best Buy is still not listing it as available. However, it is available from the Google Store and Amazon. Both of which are really great options – in fact, Google Store offers cash back for Google One subscribers.
Google Store – $499
Google sells the Pixel 9a in a few different variants, including Unlocked, AT&T and Verizon. You can also buy it for Google Fi, but technically that is unlocked as well.
The Google Store offers the most options for the Pixel 9a. You can pick it up in all four colors: Peony, Obsidian, Porcelain, and Iris. It is also available in each color in 128GB and 256GB models. Google will also let you finance the phone through the Google Store, which would come out to about $13.86 per month for 36 months. And there are trade-ins available too. Which trade-in values are not quite that good, unfortunately. For instance, a pristine condition Pixel 8a will only net you $155.
Amazon – $499
Amazon doesn’t sell carrier versions of phones, so they only offer unlocked. It does also offer both the 128GB and 256GB in all four colors, with some coming with a gift card (for a limited time).
Over at Amazon, you can also pick up the Pixel 9a unlocked, in all colors and storage variants. However, Amazon won’t have stock until May 1, unfortunately. This is likely due to Google’s delay with the Pixel 9a, where they needed to check over a component that was having an issue. So if you want a Pixel 9a unlocked right away, the Google Store is the best place to pick one up.
If you’re still thinking about whether you should grab the Pixel 9a or not, you’ll definitely want to check out our Google Pixel 9a Ultimate Review. We said it was “still a budget beast” but it is starting to become a bit stale and lose its edge. When it comes to $499 smartphones, there’s a lot more competition now, like the Galaxy A56, and the iPhone 16e (despite it being $599).
