Lily Allen has issued a public apology to Katy Perry after criticising the popstar’s involvement in the recent Blue Origin space flight.
The Woman’s World singer was one of the six women to participate in the all-female suborbital space trip on Monday April 14 – a trip Allen said was “out of touch”.
Now, on the latest episode of her Miss Me? podcast, which she co-hosts with British TV presenter Miquita Oliver, Allen has expressed her regret for singling out Perry in her criticism of the space trip, citing her “own internalised misogyny”.

“I would actually like to apologise for being mean about Katy Perry last week,” she said, referring to comments she made about the space mission and the pop star on an earlier episode of the podcast.
“There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it and it was my own internalised misogyny.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her.”

The Alfie singer said she still stood by her criticism of the space mission itself but felt her decision to name Perry was ill-informed.
”I mean, I disagree with what it was that they did. But she wasn’t the only person that did it yet, you know, she was possibly the most famous … it divides people the most,” she continued.
“I would have been hurt if it had been me and someone in my industry used me and my name.
“I’m sorry Katy Perry, I know you don’t listen to the show, but yeah, sorry.”

Perry was joined by Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen and Kerianne Flynn on the historic spaceflight that marked the first all-female mission since 1963.
Allen’s apology comes after backlash from several high-profile people about the 10-minute space flight that took place aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepherd spacecraft.
In an episode of her podcast released days after the flight, Allen called the flight “out of touch”.

“Do we want to talk about Katy Perry and her mates all going up to space for 12 minutes?” she said.
“I mean, what the f–king hell is all that about? In all seriousness, what? Why?”
”I just think it’s so out of touch.

On returning to Earth, Perry reflected on the trip, calling it an “incredible journey” in an Instagram post.
