REVIEW – The sub $100 headphones testing and reviewing keeps moving along. So far, most of the headphones that I have tested in this category have held their own quite well. there have been a couple of exceptions, but IMHO, it is evident that manufacturers are designing much better devices at reasonable prices, the next candidate for me to test at this price point is the OneOdio Focus A5 Headphones.

The OneOdio Focus A5 headphones exhibit features a visually elegant but straightforward design. They are lightweight and compact and weigh approximately .6 pounds. They feature a padded adjustable headband and adequately cushioned earcups with all the controls and connectivity on the right earcup. The controls and connectivity include the power button, noise cancellation control, and volume buttons. The earcups rotate and fold, creating a small portable package. The USB-C port for charging and audio is also located on the right ear cup. There is no 3.5mm audio jack.
Performance
The OneOdio Focus A5 Headphones are another great bang for the buck at just under $70. Starting with the Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity that provides a rock-solid connection to the active noise cancellation (ANC), and a great battery life of up to 75 hours without ANC or 45 hours with ANC enabled. IMHO, OneOdio has taken a chance with these headphones creating a simple but sleek and attractive design. The earcup and headband padding are adequate, and I can easily wear them for quite long listening sessions.
Since they are a part of my ongoing testing of sub-$ $100 headphones, I utilized the same process and listening tracks to form my opinion.
I maintained a subset of the previous music selection I chose to evaluate the other headphones. As a reminder, this selection is purely based on my taste and preferences. As usual, I listened to tracks like “All in Love is Fair,” “Distant Lover” and “I Want You” by Michael McDonald. Next, on the list I listened to “Europa” by Gate Barbieri, “Winelight” by Grover Washington Jr., and “Angela (theme from ‘Taxi’) by Bob James. I also enjoyed Gregory Isaacs, Beres Hammond, and Mariah Carey. I finished with the Flamenco genre with tracks like Govi’s Andalusian Nights.
The audio performance is surprisingly good for headphones at this price point. While they are not in the audiophile category, there is a nice separation of the Low, Mid, and High frequencies and all were noticeably present with just the right balance. The upper volume limit might not be enough for some people, but more than enough for my increasingly older ears. I also found the ANC to be adequate and phone conversations to be clear for both parties. The battery life and quick recharge capability are also impressive.
The other unique design feature is the use of a USB-C cable for charging and for wired audio. The cable provided by OneOdio only works for charging, but any USB-C cable that can transmit data can be used for the USB audio connection. While the price of these headphones is affordable, I think the USB-C data cable should have been included. When using a USB-C audio connection, the following 4modes are available: Transparency, ANC, Normal, and Ai Based Adaptive Noise Cancellation.
Final thoughts
Overall, I enjoy listening to music with the OneOdio Focus A5 Headphones. They are comfortable, and the audio presentation provides much listening pleasure. While they are not audiophile headphones, they were not designed to be. I think they are a good value at this price point.
