We at the Cultural Trust are deeply dismayed by the federal government’s recent cuts to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Those cuts will dramatically reduce vital programs and services for Oregonians provided by Oregon Humanities, the State Library of Oregon and the many museums across the state that receive funding directly from IMLS. We stand with our colleagues at those institutions in calling for the cuts to be reversed to minimize the harm done to our libraries, museums and humanities programs.
Funding for the Oregon Cultural Trust and its grant programs comes exclusively from Oregonians who invest in the Cultural Tax Credit, as well as investment earnings from our permanent fund – our funding will not be affected by federal action.
Oregon donors who care about our arts, heritage and humanities should seriously consider participating in the tax credit to increase the Cultural Trust’s available funding.
Direct donations to Oregon Humanities and the Oregon Museums Association qualify donors for the tax credit if they make a matching gift to the Cultural Trust in the same tax year.
Rest assured we will do all in our power to maintain support for cultural nonprofits in Oregon.
Note: The Nonprofit Association of Oregon is tracking federal funding issues for nonprofits; their website is a good resource for updates.
