Hyderabad: In a boost to digital governance, the state government has extended BuildNow, the AI-powered online building approval system, to the HMDA region including the Future City and extended villages. It is operational in the GHMC zone.
“If building permission was not processed within 21 days, it is deemed to be approved in BuildNow. We are trying to reduce this duration to 15 days,” said a municipal administration official.
On Friday, a 26-floor high-rise project consisting of six towers was approved in 71 seconds through BuildNow. According to MA&UD, over 500 applications have been processed in the GHMC limits through BuildNow since its launch in March 2025.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to tech-driven governance, making Telangana a leader in smart, transparent, and efficient administration,” said MA&UD principal secretary M. Dana Kishore in a statement on Friday.
Compared to the TGbPASS, the time taken for building plan scrutiny in BuildNow has significantly reduced, from several days to a matter of minutes. This quick scrutiny is one of the main features of BuildNow.
On Friday, when a drawing file was uploaded, the scrutiny was completed in less than four minutes, even though the project was a multi-storeyed one. While being India’s fastest drawing scrutiny system is BuildNow’s key strength, its round-the-clock AI-powered assistance to applicants is another feature that was missing in TGbPASS.
TGbPASS offered customer care assistance on working days from 10 am to 5.30 pm, BuildNow offers real-time status updates on WhatsApp, making it a citizen-centric application. BuildNow’s multi-department integrations include granting fire no objection certificate (NOC) after quick scrutiny.
