The government announced today that current Canadian Space Agency President Lisa Campbell whose term was set to expire on September 14, 2025 has been reappointed for a one year term.
The Order In Council notice reads as follows: “Reappointment of Lisa Campbell of Saint-Bruno de Montarville, Quebec, as President of the Canadian Space Agency, to hold office during pleasure for a term of one year, effective September 14, 2025.”
The reappointed comes at a turbulent time for Canada’s economy and provides continuity for at least another year.
It is rare that a President of the Canadian Space Agency serves longer than a one year term and Campbell becomes only the third to complete a full five year term. Past President’s who have served a full term and been extended include William “Mac” Evans who served a total of seven years, and the most recent past President, Sylvain Laporte who served five years and six months.
It was becoming apparent that Campbell was going to be reappointed when no job notice of the position was forthcoming. As well, Campbell was just announced as a speaker at the upcoming International Astronautical Congress in Sydney which starts September 29.
