ClauseBase Launches in North America, Deloitte’s Roggen Joins – Artificial Lawyer

Belgium-based ClauseBase, an AI-driven legal drafting platform, is launching in North America with the opening of a base in Montreal, Canada. They have also hired Jan Roggen, who was at Deloitte Legal, as Vice President of Growth.

Roggen brings over two decades of legal innovation experience, having previously led digital transformation initiatives at Deloitte Legal and was a customer of ClauseBase.

He will spearhead ClauseBase’s North American expansion, the company explained, and will ‘enhance customer success experiences, and forge strategic partnerships to empower more legal teams with smarter drafting solutions’.

Roggen commented: ‘At Deloitte, I had the opportunity to work extensively with ClauseBase and was continually impressed by the team and its products. The platform’s intuitive design and powerful features made a significant impact on our legal operations. I jumped at the opportunity to join the team, and I’m thrilled to make the move to North America to help bring this innovative solution to a broader audience.’

Co-founders of ClauseBase, Senne Mennes and Maarten Truyens, added: ‘Jan brings a rare mix of deep legal expertise, business acumen, and creative energy. We’ve had energizing conversations about product, positioning, and purpose. A significant portion of our revenue already comes from clients in North America, but we’ve never had boots on the ground to really build on that momentum. We’re convinced Jan is the man for the job.’

And if you’re wondering what ClauseBase does, it focuses on drafting using AI and ‘integrates with widely used tools such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, enabling legal teams to automate templates, access extensive clause libraries, and generate first drafts’.

Plus, below is an AL TV video, recorded a couple of months ago, of their ClauseBuddy tool and how it works.

This AL TV Walk Through is about ClauseBuddy, an AI-powered toolbox of legal drafting solutions, created by ClauseBase, that lives inside MS Word and Outlook. It allows lawyers to:

  • Draft smarter with automatic clause extraction from an organisation’s own drafting history, clause library curation, and automated smart templates for more effective knowledge management.
  • Negotiate better with tons of quality-of-life improvements to assist in selecting the right fallback clauses, visualizing an organisation’s drafting playbook, and finding inspiration for drafting compromises.
  • Review faster with AI-powered document analysis and proofreading.’

In this video ClauseBase co-founder Senne Mennes walks us through some of the key features of ClauseBuddy. This includes its AI-powered drafting and reviewing functionalities, as well as its capabilities towards leveraging lawyers’ existing knowledge. There is then some Q&A with Artificial Lawyer.
