CLM Summize Launches Agentic Capabilities – Artificial Lawyer

CLM Summize is introducing agentic AI capabilities to ‘review contracts, improve redline accuracy, and surface actionable summaries’. The move comes as the legal tech world tries to adopt this new approach to leveraging genAI across multiple segments of the market.

Their agents ‘mimic the way legal professionals work collaboratively….rather than relying on a singular AI to handle complex tasks, [they] function as a whole team of AI agents, each performing specific roles, validating outputs, and ensuring accuracy at every stage’ the UK company, which now has a base in the US, said.

The agents include:

  • Review Pro identifies non-compliant and missing clauses, provides AI contract redlining, revision suggestions and automated document comments directly inside Microsoft Word, cutting review times and providing faster and more accurate contract negotiations.

And,

  • Ask SIA, a conversational AI interface, answers contract- and workflow-related questions using data from pre- and post-signature documents to deliver information quickly and efficiently. Ask SIA provides advanced analysis by extracting contract data and trends, terms, obligations, and risks that transform dense legal language into business-friendly summaries for more strategic decision-making and revenue-generating opportunities.

Tom Dunlop, CEO and co-founder of Summize, commented: ‘In-house legal teams are being asked to move faster without sacrificing accuracy or control. Our new release leverages agentic AI to better manage routine legal tasks, helping teams do more strategic work to move their businesses forward.

‘At Summize, we’ve always been keen to innovate first, ahead of the market. Our agentic AI experience is unlike other offerings in that it was developed to solve the most pressing problems our customers face and not created to replace every single aspect of a legal function.’

Is this a big deal? Well, it would be a shock if anyone working in high frequency and/or high volume contract review was not exploring agentic systems, given their ability to increase efficiency.

The contract management market still seems super-competitive and ahead of and during CLOC, AKA ‘the incredible CLM extravaganza’, we can expect a flurry of announcements that seek to set the various companies apart.

The challenge as ever for the buyers is that there are a lot of CLM companies and it’s very hard to see how they are very different from the outside – and before they get implemented. Of course, there are clear differences, (not least in price…!), but it’s hard to express the more subtle differences when everyone is using the same components, e.g. a doc repository, templates, playbooks, a dash of NLP, a spoonful of LLMs, and now a sprinkle of agentic AI for good measure.
