MYndspan and EMOTIV join forces on brain health

Companies to combine MEG and EEG tech to bring clinical grade brain health assessment to consumers.

Brain health tech company MYndspan has announced a strategic investment from wearable neurotech firm EMOTIV as the companies seek to combine their technologies for proactive brain health assessment. The investment comes as MYndspan kicks off a crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube.

MYndspan is a developer of consumer-accessible clinical-grade brain health assessments based on magnetoencephalography (MEG). The company claims that MEG offers distinct advantages in brain imaging, with high temporal and spatial resolution providing detailed data on neural oscillations, which supports a more nuanced understanding of brain development and aging. Its scans generate metrics such as Functional Brain Age and the Brain Stability Index, which serve as early markers of neurodegeneration and cognitive decline, potentially years before symptoms become apparent.

MYndspan is currently providing MEG brain scans to consumers at its UK brain health centers in London and Birmingham and Toronto, Canada, with plans to expand throughout the UK and North America. However, through its new partnership with EMOTIV, the company hopes its insights can reach a global audience, extending clinical-grade brain health assessments beyond specialist centers.

The partnership aims to combine MYndspan’s biomarkers with EMOTIV’s EEG-based cognitive state tracking in order to build a continual, longitudinal system for monitoring and supporting brain health. EMOTIV’s wearable devices aim to make brain health insights passive and accessible as part of everyday routines, similar to how other biometric tools track physical fitness or metabolic health.

MYndspan CEO Caitlin Baltzer said that EMOTIV’s “pioneering work in real-time EEG and mental performance tracking complements our MEG-based approach to functional brain health. Together, we’re unlocking new dimensions of preventive neuroscience that are scalable, personalized, and accessible to everyone.”

The convergence of the two companies’ technologies aims to improve how individuals monitor their mental performance, recovery and aging trajectories – offering a potential pathway toward preventive care for aging populations, enabling users to take corrective action before clinical symptoms emerge.

“This partnership represents a powerful convergence of clinical science and wearable EEG technology,” said EMOTIV CEO Tan Le. “By joining forces, we’re building a future where high-resolution brain insights aren’t just available in specialized clinics, but are part of everyone’s daily wellness routine – whether they’re optimizing mental performance at home or proactively screening for neurodegeneration in a clinic.”
