Tanner Adell, known for her feature in “BLACKBIIRD” on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album, has come out as pansexual.
The “Buckle Bunny” hitmaker attended the Billboard Women in Music Awards on Saturday (29 March), where she presented Megan Mooney with the Rulebreaker Award.
Whilst Adell was on the red carpet, she confirmed her sexuality while adding that she has never shied away from embracing her identity through her music.
“Yes. I’m pansexual,” she told Out. “It’s funny when people ask me my sexual orientation, but I feel like you should be able to hear that in my music. There’s more of that coming.”
Adell explained that the LGBTQ+ community has long shared their support for her, even before confirming her sexuality.
“When I have shows, the gays bring it,” she said. “The gays bring it every time. There’s so many a**less chaps, and that’s exactly that’s exactly what I dreamed of, you know?”
Adell previously appeared to “manifest” her Cowboy Carter collaboration. Posting on X/Twitter back in February last year, following the release of “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages”, the young country singer reached out to Beyoncé for a collaboration.
As one of the only Black girls in [the] country music scene, I hope Bey decides to sprinkle me with a dash of her magic for a collab,” she wrote at the time. Less than two months later, she appeared on track two of the record-breaking Beyoncé album alongside fellow Black country musicians Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, and Tiera Kennedy.
Tanner Adell released her debut single “Honky Tonk Heaven” in 2021, while her debut record Buckle Bunny came out last July.
Her latest track, “Going Blonde”, is a country ballad tribute to her late birth mother, whom Adell was unable to reconnect with before she died.
In an explanation about her adoption story on Instagram, Adell said feeling so different from her adoptive mother “is hard to understand unless you have experienced something like this”.
