Dead Island 2 Reaches 20 Million Players, Developer Teases Sequel

Dead Island 2 Reaches 20 Million Players, Developer Teases Sequel

Dead Island 2 finally launched in 2023, almost nine years after its original announcement, and has amassed some pretty impressive numbers. Dambuster Studios touted 20 million players in a recent Twitter post, up from the 10 million+ announced in October 2024.

However, it also teased “the next outbreak,” how the studio is “already drenched in the work,” and that “The journey is far from over.” Attached is artwork of Jacob, one of the playable characters, hauling a travel bag with stickers for Ireland, LA, and more. When asked where the next infection would appear, Dambuster responded, “I dunno, but that’s a pretty picture we attached to the post, huh.”

Regardless of the actual place, it’s possible that Dead Island 3, or whatever it ends up called, has more open environments to explore and slay in. While Jacob is seemingly set to return, there may be brand new characters added to the mix.

Time will tell, so stay tuned. Dead Island 2 is available for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review. Its last major update added a survival mode, Neighborhood Watch, that you can learn more about here.
