Nagano Prefectural employee accused of taking obscene photos of girl

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a Nagano Prefectural employee for allegedly taking obscene photos of a 16-year-old female student more than one year ago, reports Jiji Press (Mar. 19).

Between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on December 2, 2023, Yuma Sakanaka allegedly took obscene photos of the girl, then 16, with his smartphone inside a car parked in Nagano Prefecture while knowing she was under 18.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Child Prostitution and Pornography Prohibition Act on Wednesday, Sakanaka told the Akasaka Police Station, “I did not know she was under 18 years old.”

According to police, Sakanaka, who lives in Ueda City, is an employee of the Ueda Waterworks Management Office of the Nagano Prefectural Enterprise Bureau. He met the female student on social media.

In July last year, a person related to the female student contacted police regarding a different case. During that investigation, the this incident came to light.

Police also found obscene images of several other women were also found on Sakanaka’s smartphone. Police are now investigating whether he may have committed other crimes.

The Nagano Prefectural Enterprise Bureau commented, “We will verify the facts and take strict disciplinary action.”
