EGTRONICS Co., a South Korean DC-DC converter manufacturer, announced on April 24 the commencement of construction on a new factory in China dedicated to producing key electric vehicle (EV) components. This strategic move, undertaken through a joint venture, marks a significant step in the company’s expansion plans within the rapidly growing EV market.

A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held, signifying the company’s commitment to establishing critical infrastructure to support the EV industry. The three-story facility will encompass a total site area of 2,080.5 square meters, with a building area of 6,613.9 square meters and a height of 17.5 meters. The design accommodates large equipment and advanced production and testing functions.

EGTRONICS plans to manufacture essential EV components such as chargers and electric powertrain (EPT) parts, including DCDC converters, on-board chargers (OBC), motor control units (MCU), and power distribution units (PDU). These components are crucial for enhancing EV performance and efficiency.

The new factory will feature an EMI shield room (18 meters long, 7 meters wide, and 5 meters high) for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing. Interior walls will be finished with pyramid-shaped absorbers to minimize electromagnetic wave reflection. A 200kW-class dynamometer facility will also be installed to test the performance and durability of high-power electric vehicle motors and drive systems under various simulated driving conditions.

“The groundbreaking of this new factory in China is a strategic investment to secure both technological competitiveness and production capacity, laying the groundwork for leadership in the EV market,” an EGTRONICS representative stated. “We will pursue sustainable growth by expanding our global customer base and strengthening R&D connections.”

This development comes amid rapid growth in the global EV industry, fueled by environmental concerns and technological advancements. China’s prominence as both a major EV market and manufacturing hub makes it a strategic location for such investments. EGTRONICS’ joint venture approach provides access to local market expertise and regulatory advantages.

EGTRONICS aims to complete construction this year and transition to mass production. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and aligns with broader sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions through advanced EV technology.
