Spear Interactive shared their most recent development update for Varsity High School Football, touching on Dynasty Mode upgrades, a new animator joining the team and what to expect from Playtest #7.
Dynasty Mode: Team Branding
The team has carved out some time to focus on team branding options in Dynasty Mode. Brand presets now come with a mascot (like Ducks, Raptors or Falcons) and a three-color scheme. Down the line, players will be able to “hire” a designer to create or unlock a custom brand. And of course, you’ll have full freedom to tweak the colors—even if that means pairing hot pink with neon green and completely derailing your designer’s vision.
Dynasty Mode: Awards & Schemes
Dynasty now includes a full awards system for both players and coaches. Beyond the usual MVP and positional honors, there’s now a two-way player of the year award. Coaching schemes are also more impactful, what your team runs on offense or defense actually affects sim results. Running an Air Raid? Hope you’ve got a QB who can sling it, because it’s going to be pass-heavy.
Motion Capture & Animation
The dev team just leveled up with a full-time animator with AAA experience. His arrival shortens the pipeline from mocap to gameplay-ready animations, which should speed up the turnaround on new features and upcoming gameplay footage.
Playtest #7 Details
Signups for Playtest #7 are now live through April 30, with invites rolling out on May 2. The new test includes a QB mini camp mode, multi-season Dynasty play, playoffs, awards and coaching schemes.
Those looking to jump in early and get in on playtests can support the project via Patreon or just wait it out and wishlist it on Steam for future updates. Varsity High School Football is set to release on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, though there’s no official launch date just yet.
