How to Do A Brotherhood Betrayed in Oblivion Remastered

With the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion now out, players can immerse themselves into this whimsical world once more, or even for the first time ever. One of the side quests you might encounter as you run around in the major cities is called A Brotherhood Betrayed, and this guide will try to help you get through the entire thing.

How to Do A Brotherhood Betrayed in Oblivion Remastered – Raynil Dralas Location

In order to learn about the quest called A Brotherhood Betrayed, you simply have to walk around Bruma and ask NPCs for rumors until you hear about a supposed vampire hunter’s presence in the town.

Once you are ready to actually start the quest, head over to Bradon Lirrian’s house to the west of the chapel in Bruma. It is the first one in the line of houses here, so you cannot possibly miss it.

When you enter the house, speak with Carius Runellius and Erline Lirrian to learn more about what is going on here. If you cannot get them to share any information, make sure to use the persuasion mechanic to raise their disposition first.

After talking to both of them, you will learn that this was likely the work of Raynil Dralas, who is the supposed vampire hunter in town. In order to learn more, you must ask the merchants and innkeepers in the area.

To proceed to the next part of the quest, head over to Olav’s Tap & Tack. This is the inn that is on the east side of the chapel. This is the building parallel to the house you were just in, so just jog over there and enter it.

Again, just like the previous two NPCs, you will have to raise his disposition first if it is not high enough. Play the persuasion minigame for a bit until he is ready to tell you about Raynil Dralas. He will state that the man’s room is the last room down the hall upstairs.

Olav will give you a key to help with your investigation. Your task here is to look for anything suspicious in his inn room. Be careful not to steal anything from the containers.

In the corner, just beside the door, is a small cabinet. If you look at the ground behind it, you will find Gelebourne’s Journal sticking out. Read it to proceed to the next step.

Upon checking the journal, you will learn the Raynil is a part of a small group of adventurers who have hidden an Ayleid artifact and split the keys among them. Here, you will learn that Bradon was a part of this group, as well as Gelebourne, who wrote the journal.

Now, you can ask Olav about this and he will tell you that Gelebourne is supposedly the last vampire that Raynil hunted. Unfortunately, Olav also confirmed that he is already dead, so you are not going to be getting any more clues from him.

Olav will tell you that he lived somewhere in Skingrad. Obviously, there is no point going there as he has already perished. By now, if you check your journal, it should be clear that he is trying to get the artifact they uncovered for himself, so you must stop him before it is too late.

Before you head off and look for him, you need to go and speak with Carius Runellius again. Head back to the house from earlier and talk to him about Gelebourne. He will reveal that they have known about his death, but they also believe that he is a vampire.

Revealing all of the evidence you have gathered will push the quest to the next step. He will ask that you meet him at Olav’s Tap & Tack in one hour, so head back once more and wait for an ingame hour. To trigger his arrival.

Carius Runellius will tell you that his scouts have spotted Raynil Dralas heading northwest out of Bruma, towards the Boreal Stone Cave. From this point on, his location will now be marked in your map, so just open it and head towards that area.

This is where things get a little urgent. You have 24 hours to head over there and stop Raynil Dralas. If you take too long, which you really should not as it is already so close, he will eventually escape. When that happens, you will fail the quest and receive nothing at the end.

So, as soon as you talk to Carius Runellius at the inn, head out there immediately. Upon reaching the Boreal Stone Cave, Raynil Dralas himself will approach you and refuse to surrender. After speaking with him, he will pause for a brief moment before initiating combat.

Beat him in whichever way you see fit and then loot his body to find all of the keys needed to open the nearby waterlogged chest. This will contain a mundane amulet, which you should take back to the widow, Erline Lirrian, at Bruma.

There, she will reveal that the amulet has an enchantment on it that was placed by her husband so that nobody would be able to make use of its true form without the keyword. As a reward for avenging her husband’s death, she will unveil the amulet’s true form by speaking the code word, “brotherhood”.

You will then receive the real reward, the Phylactery of Litheness, which is an enchanted amulet that fortifies your speed by several points. This is a leveled quest reward, so it is better if you claim it once you have a fairly high level. At its lowest, it will only buff your speed by five points.

And that is everything you need to know in order to find the missing murderer in this brief side quest of Oblivion Remastered. All of this effort does net you a decent reward, as this enchanted amulet can be amazing depending on your character’s build and your playstyle.

This is a fairly complicated and annoying mechanic, but it will allow you to make some of the most potent enchantments possible in the base version of the game.
