IMF lowers forecast for global economy

Washington (dpa) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) envisages a global economic slowdown as a result of the aggressive tariffs policy pursued by US President Donald Trump and the resulting uncertainty. The Washington-based IMF also downgraded its forecast for Germany and now expects the country to see zero growth. It forecasts growth of 0.9 percent in Germany next year. At 2.8 percent, the global economy is also set to grow significantly more slowly in 2025 than had been predicted in January (namely by 0.5 percentage points less). The IMF stressed that the global economic forecast had been put together under “exceptional circumstances”. This is a reference to the tariffs policy pursued by US President Donald Trump.

Representatives of Germany at the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank include acting Finance Minister Jörg Kukies and Bundesbank chief Joachim Nagel.
