JoJo Siwa Addresses Kath Ebbs Split and Chris Hughes Friendship

JoJo Siwa is sharing her side of the story of her split from Kath Ebbs.

During a Monday, April 28, appearance on the U.K.’s This Morning, Siwa, 21, opened up about the biggest lessons she took away from her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house. Siwa was also asked about Ebbs’ claims that the duo broke up at the show’s recent wrap party.

“I’ll be honest, that was not a plan,” Siwa said on Monday. “That was not an intention, that was not supposed to happen like that.”

The Dance Moms alum continued, “Initially, I was told that the wrap party was something [Kath] didn’t want to attend, and then about an hour into the wrap party, they decided they wanted to. And so I was genuinely just going to have a conversation before and … they straight up asked me if I was happy and I said, ‘No.’”

Ebbs took to Instagram on Saturday, April 26, to confirm the pair’s breakup. “I haven’t processed enough to, if you’d want to call it love bombing or whatever, but it seems to me I have experienced a version of that,” they claimed, adding that Siwa “dumped” them at the party.

According to Ebbs, Siwa “realized in the house that I wasn’t the person they wanted to spend the foreseeable [future with].”

Siwa’s personal life became a hot topic during her stint on Celebrity Big Brother, with the dancer claiming on camera that she was “switching letters” when it comes to her sexuality. “I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian, but I think you — I think being here, I’ve realized, ‘Oh no, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer,’” she said.

Speculation has also been swirling about the bond Siwa formed with her costar Chris Hughes, who previously appeared on Love Island UK. Hughes, 32, and Siwa shed light on their status during their joint interview on This Morning.

“It’s hard to explain,” Hughes said on Monday. “It’s just a really strong bond between two people, which is just a strong friendship. And I think you can have, like, a soulmate friendship. I think that’s a thing. … Having someone in [the house] to go through an experience like that and have someone there every day when you’re emotional when you’re down when you’re happy — that was beautiful.”

When asked whether she wanted to take their friendship to another level, Siwa laughed awkwardly. “Look, he’s a great guy,” she said, placing her hand on Hughes’ shoulder. “It is platonic. We had a lot of fun together. Life is life and I don’t know any future of anything, but I’m really grateful for our dynamic that we have. And whatever life does, life will do.”

Siwa finished the reality competition in third place. She admitted that while the first few days in the Celebrity Big Brother house were “fun,” the experience helped her come to some tough realizations about her life.

“I was now in my own thoughts away from everyone that I know, away from outside opinions, away from everything,” she explained. “And I sat with myself and from that point on, I really realized things that I was OK with in my life that I should never have been OK with in the first place. … I knew as soon as I got out, I wanted to fix things in my life and make the changes I needed to make.”
