Tory Lanez is now facing potential sanctions after allegedly disrupting a scheduled deposition in Megan Thee Stallion’s ongoing defamation case.
According to newly filed court documents, Megan’s legal team asked a judge to hold Lanez in contempt of court, citing his behavior during a deposition that took place while he remains behind bars. The court agreed, and Lanez has now been ordered to respond to the sanctions request by April 30.
Independent legal journalist Meghann Cuniff first reported the motion Wednesday, revealing that Megan’s lawyers described Lanez’s conduct as “disruptive, inflammatory, and inconsistent with the basic norms of civil litigation.” By Thursday, Judge Cecilia Altonaga had granted the motion, setting the stage for further court action.
The deposition stems from Megan’s lawsuit against Milagro Cooper, a social media personality accused of spreading false information “at the behest and command of” Lanez. However, Megan’s attorneys say the deposition with Lanez quickly derailed, describing it as a “waste of time.”
In just 44 minutes on the record, Lanez allegedly feigned ignorance of common words like “discuss” and “approve,” harassed Megan’s counsel about her appearance, interrupted questioning, and pretended the video equipment was malfunctioning, despite confirmation from prison staff that everything was working properly.
Lanez was previously convicted in 2022 for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, and is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. In January of this year, Megan was also granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez due to alleged harassment that continued even after his sentencing.
