Mid Calder Camera Club has once again proven that local talent can rival the very best in the UK.
At the recent adjudication for the prestigious Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) Awards for Photographic Merit, four of the club’s members successfully achieved the coveted Credit (CPAGB) standard — a significant and hard-earned accolade that recognises exceptional skill, creativity, and technical excellence.
The PAGB awards are highly respected across the British photographic community, with standards set to challenge even the most seasoned photographers. Achieving a CPAGB is no small feat: candidates must submit a panel of 10 images that demonstrate consistent high-quality work consistent with a good photographer in a good camera club.
To have four members attain this level simultaneously is a remarkable achievement for any club, and a testament to Mid Calder’s supportive ethos and commitment to excellence.

The successful members — Russell Walker, Caroline Lawrie, Margaret Lothian and John Love — spent many months preparing their portfolios, attending mentoring sessions, critique evenings, and refining their technical skills. Their work covered a dazzling range of styles, and we’ve included four of their best ‘Nature’ images by example.
Club chairperson Dougie Cockburn said: “As a small photographic club, we continue to produce images of the highest quality, these awards to John, Caroline, Russell and Margaret show the talent we have within our club.
“They continue to inspire fellow members with their work and we’ll hopefully achieve even more PAGB awards in the future. Congratulations to each and every one of them. I am very proud of them all.”
Mid Calder Camera Club has long been known as a friendly, inclusive space for photographers of all levels.

With regular competitions, workshops, guest speaker evenings, and field trips, it offers something for everyone — whether you’re a newcomer with a smartphone or an experienced professional with a full kit.
Following a highly successful display of the club member’s images at Howden Park Centre, the club is excited to build on this momentum and there’s a renewed energy as others are inspired to work towards their own PAGB distinctions.
