Hit Off-Broadway Play “Daniel’s Husband” to Make UK Premiere

Acclaimed Off-Broadway drama “Daniel’s Husband” is set to make its long-awaited UK premiere this winter, with a limited run at London’s Marylebone Theatre from 4 December 2025 to 10 January 2026. Directed by Alan Souza, the production marks the debut London outing for Plastered Productions, with a national press night scheduled for 9 December, 2025.

Written by American playwright Michael McKeever, “Daniel’s Husband” has already garnered critical acclaim across the United States since its 2015 premiere at Island City Stage in Florida, where it picked up three Carbonell Awards, including Best New Work. The play went on to notable Off-Broadway runs at New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre and the Westside Theatre Upstairs, earning an Off-Broadway Alliance Award nomination and building a loyal audience following.

At its core, the play delivers a poignant, intricately layered and emotionally resonant exploration of love, commitment, and the legal and societal structures that shape them. It centers on Daniel and Mitchell, a seemingly picture-perfect couple living an enviable life marked by success, intimacy, and stability—until upended by an unexpected crisis that compels them to reexamine not just their future, but their deepest convictions about marriage and what it truly means to be a family.

Described as both “a humanist parable” and “a persuasive polemic for marriage” by director Alan Souza, the play offers no easy answers. “It challenges audiences in essential ways,” Souza noted. “Daniel’s Husband urges us to confront and re-evaluate our most personal ideas of what family means.”

The upcoming London staging brings together a seasoned creative team, including Lee Newby on set and costume design, lighting by Jamie Platt, and sound design from Sarah Weltman. Casting is being overseen by Arthur Carrington, with general management handled by James Steel Productions and production management by Charlie Rayner at Production Solutions Group. Visuals and artwork for the production come from Steph Pyne Design.

As its first major outing in London, Plastered Productions has chosen “Daniel’s Husband” for its layered emotional narrative and timely themes. The company, known for producing socially engaged theatre, sees the play as a fitting launch, aiming to spark conversations around love, marriage, and the choices people face when confronted with life-altering decisions.

Tickets for Daniel’s Husband are now available via the Marylebone Theatre box office. More information can be found on the official website!
