A new Friday film is officially in development at New Line Cinema, according to studio president Richard Brener, who revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the project is titled Last Friday. Ice Cube is set to write and star, marking his long-awaited return to the beloved comedy franchise.
“We just closed a deal with Ice Cube,” Brener said, confirming the film will serve as a final installment in the series that began in 1995.
The announcement comes as Brener celebrates his 30th anniversary at New Line, where he’s helped shape the studio’s identity with hits like The Conjuring, Final Destination, Wedding Crashers, and The Wedding Singer.
He now oversees a 2025 slate packed with franchise titles, but says keeping sequels fresh is key: “We take our sequels seriously.”
