Beloved Aussie actor and comedian Magda Szubanski has revealed she’s been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
In a post on Instagram, the Kath & Kim icon said she’s undergoing treatment for stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
“I won’t sugar-coat it. It’s rough. But I’m hopeful. I’m being lovingly cared for by friends and family, my medical team is brilliant and I’ve never felt more held by the people around me.”
She continued, “I’ll be lying very low while my immune system takes a hammering, so if you see me out and about, don’t hug or kiss me, or breathe anywhere near me! Wave enthusiastically from a safe distance and know I love you madly.”
Magda explained that the cancer was picked up accidentally via a breast screen and extra blood tests she requested after feeling “ratshit for ages.”
In a video posted to her page, she’d shaved her head in anticipation of her chemotherapy treatment over the next few weeks. She also took a moment to laugh, asking herself, and us: “What are you going to do? What do you do?”
