Something that I always cite when it comes to looking at puzzlers is what I heard during a conversation with the folks at Wooga (makers of June’s Journey) which is that good gameplay can always benefit from a captivating story. Case-in-point with the upcoming release Puzzletown Mysteries that’s currently in soft launch!
On the surface, this is your standard collection of puzzles, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find that these are emulating your classic CSI-style mystery stories. Albeit, of course, with a bit less in the way of melodrama and danger. But in either case, as you solve puzzles in Puzzletown Mysteries you’ll also be taking on a variety of criminal cases.
The puzzles in Puzzletown Mysteries also look to be impressively varied, ranging from fairly straightforward pattern-recognition arrangement to more complex hidden object levels. All of these have some nice theming to help you feel as though you’re solving a more complicated task than you are.
Known Unknowns
Aside from these key features, Puzzletown Mysteries also comes packaged with some impressive digital art, and the ability to play both offline and online. All of which are, of course, very welcome for fans of the genre who’ll be playing on the go.
Personally speaking, while Puzzletown Mysteries isn’t quite my cup of tea I do appreciate that there is a dedicated subset of fans who want a little bit of background to go with their puzzle work.
