The Staff of Light is the only Mage Staff in RuneScape: Dragonwilds that counts as a Masterwork, which means it’s the best you can get.
Its status isn’t the only thing making it special, though. It also has the highest damage of all the Mage Staffs. Plus, you need to complete a fairly unique quest to even be able to get it. It’s not as simple to get as most others!
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything required to get this unique Mage Staff.
How to Get Best Mage Staff – Staff of Light | RuneScape: Dragonwilds
The first thing you need to do to get the Staff of Light is earn its recipe. For that, you need to go to the westernmost part of the Bramblemead Valley region. You’ll find the Runecrafting Guild there, close to one of the Dragonkin Vaults. Get close to the area and you’ll automatically start the “Highlighting the Problem” quest.
Once you get to the Runecrafting Guild, look for a tall statue of Ramus Lumen. Interact with it and try to use the dialogue options to no avail. You can also find a journal near the statue, which hints that you should check the nearby vault. Within the vault, you’ll find another statue.
Following the book’s advice, go southeast from the Runecrafting Guild. You should reach a large cliff drop with some ledges on it. Use the ledges to jump across and reach the lower section of the cliff.
Then, just continue south until you see the Dragonkin Vault’s entrance. Enter the vault and progress through it as normal.
At some point, while progressing through the vault, you’ll reach the area shown above. It has a lot of rubble and some light seeping in from the cracks above.
Once you reach that area, face the southern wall. You should notice a large opening above a red brick wall. Use the Windstep Spell and jump to reach the opening.
Then, just follow the linear path and you’ll find a lone statue at a dead end. It’s marked by some blue torches, making it easier to spot. Interact with the statue and it will essentially put the Runecrafting Guild’s password into your mind. As far as we can tell, it’s always Phentorok. That’s the first step down!
Returning to the Guild
Now that you’ve “spoken” to the statue within the Dragonkin Vault, you need to return to the Runecrafting Guild. When you get there, talk to the Ramus Lumen statue you interacted with at the start of this guide. This time, select the password given to you by the other statue from the dialogue options.
Once you’ve selected the password, you’ll get an orb. A voice will also beam itself into your mind and tell you what to do. You must take the orb to all 3 pedestals atop the towers around the Runecrafting Guild. When you’ve done that, return to Ramus Lumen’s statue.
The first pedestal you can reach is right behind the statue. Try to find the highest position possible first. Then, just use Windstep and jump up the tower to reach the pedestal. It’s as simple as that!
Once you’ve used that one, go up the inclined roof to the northeast. Walk up it as much as possible and then use Windstep to reach the balcony on your right. As a bonus, there’s a chest on the balcony that you can open up for some extra goodies!
Look out the northeastern part of the balcony and you should spot the second pedestal. Use your Windstep to reach it, though this one can be pretty tricky to jump to. If it gives you trouble, try jumping on the balcony’s walls first to give you some extra distance.
For the third and final pedestal, go to the northwestern corner of the Runecrafting Guild. You should notice that the tower there has a bunch of crates surrounding it.
Get on top of the crates and use Windstep to reach the top of the tower. Activate the final pedestal and return to Ramus Lumen’s statue with the charged orb.
Claiming and Using the Recipe
Now that you’ve charged up the orb as instructed, talk to Ramus Lumen’s statue one last time. It will play a final recording and reward you with the crafting recipe for the Staff of Light. Now, you’ll need to actually make the thing yourself!
For that, you’ll need to get a Smithing Anvil and the following materials:
- Blightwood x16 – Obtained by chopping the pale roots of large trees in the Bloodblight Swamp region.
- Wild Anima x8 – Can be made at a Kiln by using Anima-Infused Bark x4.
- Sapphire x4 – You can it by mining Gold Deposits in the Bloodblight Swamp region. Requires the Gem Prospector Perk, which unlocks at Level 16 Mining Skill.
- Vault Shard x12 – Obtained by defeating Vault Guardian enemies inside any Dragonkin Vault.
- Vault Core x1 – Obtained as a reward from looting and exploring Dragonkin Vaults.
Lastly, here’s the stats for this Masterwork Mage Staff:
- Durability – 1300
- Damage Multiplier – x4.5 Rune Damage
- Attack Combo – 4
