EXCLUSIVE: While Sarah Michelle Gellar is always content discussing her incredible acting career, there’s one question about her personal life that brings the biggest smile to her face.
“What’s the best thing about being a mum?” 9honey Celebrity asks the Hollywood star via a Zoom interview, taking place from two opposite sides of the world.
Her answer comes instantly.

“Everything,” the 48-year-old responds, beaming.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s the most rewarding, most loving. I mean – the scariest – but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Fans know Gellar for her roles in some of the biggest TV shows and movies in the world; from the lead in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (more on that later) to Scooby-Doo and Cruel Intentions.
But at home in Los Angeles, she’s a proud mum to two children who she shares with her actor husband Freddie Prinze Jr, 49.
The couple met on the set of horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, before tying the knot in 2002.

They soon became one of Hollywood’s most beloved and iconic couples, welcoming their daughter Charlotte in 2009 and son Rocky in 2012.
As I cheekily ask Gellar if her children know just “how cool their parents are”, she laughs.
Honestly if it wasn’t for the internet, I probably wouldn’t even know it was our anniversary!”
“Not according to them, no,” she says, before excitedly revealing they recently joined their parents for their first trip to Australia last year.
While Gellar keeps much of her personal life private, she does offer a quick glimpse into her marriage when asked about the couple’s recent 22-year wedding anniversary.

“Honestly if it wasn’t for the internet, I probably wouldn’t even know it was our anniversary!” she jests.
“We have this running joke that we never even remember if it’s September the first or second, but we inevitably wake up and someone will be like, ‘Oh my god, I saw it was your anniversary on blah blah blah…'”
“We go, ‘Oh, it’s our anniversary?’ That’s how we know.”
Gellar, who has partnered with MyFitnessPal, is reflecting on some of her biggest career highlights – and despite her huge success, she remains humble.

“As an actor, you hope that some of your projects stand the test of time and that people want to revisit them. I’m just really fortunate that I have so many that people still know and love,” she says.
One of those projects that people still know and love is, of course, Buffy – she was one of the first stars to portray a heroine on screen with the hit show.

When asked about the reboot she tells die-hard fans to be “patient” – and fairly so – as they want to bring forward their best work with the show.
“We will not show it or bring it to the world until we are 100 per cent sure we are doing it right, and it’s all there – so just be patient is what I can say,” she says.
“And we’re working every day on it and really want to do it justice.”
With all that is already on Gellar’s plate, the actress and mother made the decision to take on another project: partnering with MyFitnessPal for the launch of their new Meal Planner feature.
“I want to be here a long time to spend as much quality time with my family and that is about staying healthy,” she explains.
For Gellar, the Meal Planner helps her when it comes to running the household and making sure the family have balanced meals and plenty of nutrition, a feature she describes as “next level”.

“For me, I love meal planning and it’s really important in my life because my schedule is so inconsistent. Being able to look ahead at the week and say, ‘OK, I need to have an easy meal and I need to have this in the house.'”
She credits husband Freddie to being the “better chef” in the family, saying he even went to culinary school, but says she’s good at sticking to recipes.
“I can make it but he’s the creator in all of that,” she says.

Gellar, who says she loves Pilates and “loves working out” says MyFitnessPal and the planner helps her make “healthier choices” for her family.
“We have so much knowledge now, about how food affects our health, our mental health, our ability to live longer and when we’re able to make it easier to make the right choices,” she says.
“What MyFitnessPal and this meal planning tool really does, it breaks it down to a way so that anybody can have a simple way to plan ahead, to make healthier choices and be healthier and happier.”
