Superpower unleashed with $30m for AI-powered preventive health

Celebrity-backed proactive health platform wants everyone in the world to have an ‘AI doctor’ within five years.

Preventive healthcare platform Superpower has secured $30 million in Series A funding to further its mission to bring personalized, proactive healthcare to a broad population. The San Francisco-based healthtech startup is developing an AI-powered, app-based approach to health monitoring that analyzes more than 100 biomarkers, including two comprehensive lab tests, for just $499 a year.

Superpower, which secured $4 million in pre-seed funding last year, is on a mission to make preventative healthcare accessible by all, not just the wealthiest in society. The latest funding round, led by Forerunner Ventures and joined by Day One Ventures, Susa Ventures, Long Journey Ventures and a number of celebrities including musician Steve Aoki, NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo and actress Vanessa Hudgens, reportedly valued the company at over $300 million.

Founded in 2023 by Max Marchione, Jacob Peters and Kevin Unkrich, Superpower aims to replace the prevailing reactive model of primary care with a system that empowers individuals to understand and manage their health continually. The AI-driven platform integrates data from twice-yearly blood tests with fitness tracker outputs, genetic information and historical health records.

Guided by physicians and health specialists, the AI generates tailored health insights and action plans for members, seeking to address not only physical illness but also chronic conditions and lifestyle factors such as sleep, nutrition, hormonal balance, inflammation and toxins. With its new capital, Superpower plans to scale its engineering and clinical operations, enrich app functionality and expand internationally as it prepares for the launch of its mobile app.

In a post on LinkedIn, Superpower co-founder and CEO Jacob Peters said: “This is just the beginning. Over the next year, we plan to unveil what we’ve been working on behind the scenes to bring a healthcare super app to millions.”

He also expressed the company’s five-year vision that “everyone in the world will have an AI doctor” and that no one should die of preventable diseases, while chronic diseases will be reversed, and incurable cases cured.

Prior to co-founding Superpower, Peters endured a health crisis that resulted in both a prolonged recovery and a costly hospital stay. His journey through private, integrative medicine exposed the stark contrast between reactive public healthcare and the proactive, data-driven care available to a privileged few. That experience inspired the vision for a company that could democratize access to advanced diagnostics, making preventative care the norm rather than the exception.
