SHIMANE (TR) – Police here last week posthumously sent papers on a man and his mother to the prosecutor’s office for allegedly dumping the body of his twin brother in the mountains of Masuda City last year. The pair were confirmed dead in Chiba Prefecture earlier this year.
The papers were sent on Kaneko Kusumoto, 77, and Kinya Kusumoto, 52, on suspicion of abandoning a corpse to the Matsue District Public Prosecutors Office on March 28, reports NHK (Mar. 28).
Between the end of April and May 2, 2024, the pair allegedly dumped the body of Tetsuya Kusumoto along National Route 191 in Utsugawa, Mitocho.
After the discovery of the body on May 2, police launched an investigation. Unable to identify the body initially, police released sketches showing the face of the person in August.
On January 22, a vehicle containing Kaneko and Kinya plunged into the sea from a port in Chiba. They both died in the incident.
Whereabouts became unknown last March
After a police investigation into the incident in Chiba, it was determined that the body found in the Shimane mountains was that of Tetsuya. Kaneko,
Kinya and Tetsuya were last known to have lived in Chiba. Their whereabouts became unknown last March.
Prior to the discovery of the body, the three had been living in a car. Tetsuya may have been bedridden. When his body was found he was wearing a diaper and had bed sores, police said.
The cause of death was so-called “economy class syndrome,” a condition in which blood clots form. He is believed to have developed the condition from sleeping in the car.
After the death of Tetsuya, Kaneko and Kinya are believed to have developed financial difficulties. Based on security camera footage and other evidence, police believe the pair abandoned his body in the mountains after they were unable to dispose of it properly.
