WEF Future of Jobs Report | 78 million new jobs by 2030, skill gap must be…

The World Economic Forum has just launched this week the 2025 edition of the Future of Jobs Report. This looks at the trends in labor market for the period 2025 to 2030. There are some very interesting findings in this report which I find really striking:
– Frontline job roles are predicted to see the largest growth in absolute terms of volume and include Farmworkers, Delivery Drivers, Construction Workers, Salespersons, and Food Processing Workers. Care economy jobs, such as Nursing Professionals, Social Work and Counselling Professionals and Personal Care Aides are also expected to grow significantly over the next five years, alongside Education roles such as Tertiary and Secondary Education Teachers.
– Analytical thinking remains the most sought-after core skill among employers, with seven out of 10 companies considering it as essential in 2025. This is followed by resilience, flexibility and agility, along with leadership and social influence.
– Less surprising, AI and big data top the list of fastest-growing skills, followed closely by networks and cybersecurity as well as technology literacy.

While global job numbers are projected to grow by 2030, existing and emerging skills differences between growing and declining roles could exacerbate existing skills gaps.  In this context, upskilling and reskilling employees becomes extremely important in the coming years.

We expect to see even more significant investments in people development in the following years, a trend that has been here already for some time. In a context where technological advancements, demographic shifts, geoeconomic fragmentation and geopolitical tensions continue to drive business model transformation, human-centric skills but also technology-related skills are most sought after by organizations around the world. I believe this report is a clear call for action to many organizations.
