What to know about Seahawks seventh-round pick Ricky White III

The Seahawks added another piece to their wide receiver stable on Saturday with their final pick of the 2025 NFL draft when they selected UNLV’s Ricky White III with the 238th overall pick.

Drafted: Seventh round, 22nd pick (238th overall)

Height: 6-1

Weight: 184 pounds

Birth date: February 6, 2002

Hometown: Marietta, Georgia.

Three things to know

  • White spent his freshman season at Michigan State. That season featured a game where he caught a program freshman-record 196 yards on eight catches against Michigan. After redshirting the next season, White transferred to UNLV for 2022.
  • White set the UNLV program single-season receiving yards record in 2023 with 1,483 yards along with eight touchdowns, shattering Jim Sandusky’s program record of 1,346 which had stood since 1981. White also tied the single-season program record that season with 88 receptions, and had four blocked punts on special teams to win the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year Award.
  • White is the first Rebels player to record multiple 1,000 receiving yard seasons, and became the program’s first player to record seven games with at least 100 yards through the air.

Quote to note:

“It’s really just the want-to. It’s the mentality that comes behind that. Having that savviness and going out there and competing, and actually having those techniques and details, being coached too and applying it to your game.” — White when asked what they key was behind his outstanding special teams play last season, in which he finished with four blocked punts.

What the scouts say:

“Productive inside/outside receiver with good instincts but below-average play strength. He’s too easily knocked around and needs to play with better care for eluding trouble inside the route. White is smooth in space with an easy stride but won’t light it up with separation speed — though he does have a feel for positioning and adjustments to create late catch space. A lack of size and catch strength will become exacerbated on the pro level, so refining his route-running as a slot option is a must. His lack of traits and explosiveness could overshadow the production and punch his ticket as an average NFL backup.” — NFL.com
