Amanda Nguyễn just lived out her dream!
The bioastronautics research scientist and activist was part of the very first all-female crew to go to space. Her team included broadcaster Gayle King, superstar Katy Perry, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and journalist Lauren Sanchez, who is also rocket owner Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, and the one who assembled the crew.
Amanda also makes history as the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian woman in space.
After liftoff from the Blue Origin base in Texas, the crew travelled to an altitude of about 62 miles. The whole thing from start to finish lasted 11 minutes.

Amanda, who is the founder of RISE, a nonprofit that helps sexual assault victims – and is a survivor herself – used her moment to acknowledge other survivors. Stepping off the spacecraft, she said to media:
“I just want every survivor and every person who’s ever had a dream deferred to know that your dreams are valid. And even if your dreams are as wild as going to space, they matter. And you can get there too. If I can get there, you can get there too.”
She also took to Instagram to share the special moment with fans:
“What justice feels like. I kept my promise. Touchdown.”
This was the 11th human spaceflight for Bezos’ Blue Origin. And it’s the first all-woman crew since 1963 when Valentina Tereshkova from the Soviet Union made a solo mission to space.
